The Griffin MK2 9mm is a fully ambidextrous 9mm AR-15 and represents the first full-ambidextrous 9mm AR-15 platform built with a forged 7075-T6 receiver set. It utilizes a Colt magazine pattern lower compatible with Colt or Metalform 10-, 20-, and 32-round magazines that maintain the classic Colt SMG profile. The lower receiver includes a 1/4-28 nylon-tipped tension screw to provide a tight, adjustable fit based on user preference.
The feed ramp and magazine interface have been redesigned from the original Colt system. Instead of using a magazine well adapter in a 5.56mm lower, the receiver is purpose-built for Colt-pattern 9mm magazines. A proprietary feed ramp is engineered to guide cartridges directly to the chamber centerline. The ramp is secured using three Allen screws that draw the 17-4 nitrided component into the receiver via a whistle-notch-style interface, providing a rigid and consistent lockup. The ejector is integrated with the bolt catch extension into a single component designed to function without user adjustment.
The buffer system utilizes a brass buffer to increase mass and approximate the operating characteristics of the M1A1 Thompson, reducing cyclic rate. It is also designed to limit bolt carrier group travel, preventing spent casings from entering the fire control pocket. The platform is equipped with Griffin’s adjustable two-stage trigger system, factory-configured for immediate use. This trigger is based on a Kreiger Milazzo-style design, incorporating a 62RC 8620 steel trigger, a 53RC 440C stainless disconnector, and a 440C nickel Teflon-coated tool steel speed hammer. The trigger includes adjustable overtravel and disconnector engagement for user refinement.
Barrels are headspaced 0.01″ short to reduce bolt slap when used with a suppressor. SR handguards are designed to accommodate suppressors up to approximately 1.550″ in diameter, though some overlapping M-LOK slots may be obstructed.
Important Note:
It is not recommended to fire the 4.5″ and 9.5″ models without a suppressor installed, as the handguard extends beyond the muzzle and may present a safety hazard if hand placement extends forward of the muzzle. Suppressors shown in product images are not included and must be purchased separately. Recommended suppressor pairings include the Griffin Sportsman Ultra Light HD™ .36 or the Bushwhacker® .36 configured with a booster housing and 3-Lug interface.
