Griffin’s M4SD-K™ became well known for its duty-rated durability and the versatile GATE-LOK™ QD mounting interface, designed to work with mil-spec A2 birdcage flash hiders as well as Griffin GATE-LOK™ muzzle devices. The M4SD-K™ (MOD 5) begins as approximately eight inches of 17-4 H900 heat-treated stainless steel bar stock, selected for its superior wear resistance compared to softer high-nickel alloys commonly used in the industry. At its core is a billet-machined chassis (tube body) with integrated muzzle device bearing surfaces that house the internal components.
The chassis incorporates fluting with reinforced support structures, enhancing the strength-to-weight ratio while increasing surface area by approximately 40% for improved cooling. Lower internal operating temperatures contribute to increased durability and longevity. The monolithic blast chamber and tube construction maximize structural integrity and promote efficient heat transfer, reducing erosion on critical components.
The MOD 5 features an updated flash hider end cap design derived from the Recce 5K™, providing improved flash suppression over previous generations. This works in conjunction with the ECO-FLOW™ baffle system to enhance tone, reduce backpressure, and significantly limit flash signature. Durability is further increased with the addition of a full INCONEL blast baffle, offering superior resistance to heat and corrosion under demanding use.
The GATE-LOK™ QD mounting system is engineered to avoid the wear issues associated with traditional ratcheting systems. Precision-ground mounting surfaces ensure consistent, repeatable lockup with minimal and predictable point-of-impact shift.
